Barilla is an eminent name in the industry for products like pastas and pizzas and they recently launched restaurants in Dubai. The story of Barilla goes way back in 1877 when Pietro Barilla started a bakery shop in Parma, Italy and went on to become the leading pasta makers in the world.
The first restaurant was opened in Dubai at Dubai Festival City in partnership with Al Futtaim. They have a minimalistic interiors with rustic wooden furniture and their products displayed in shelves.
Mr Saroop who is the restaurant manager greeted us and and gave a brief explanation about the outlet and the fast sellers from the menu.
To start with, we ordered a tomato and pesto bread. The smell of freshly baked bread was something I loved.
We went on to order a traditional Italian vegetable soup which is also called minestrone zuppe. The spices used were mild and was very light for our palate.
Next was the salad. Ruspante – Mixed greens, rosemary chicken, apples, caramelized walnuts, blue cheese, croutons topped with honey mustard dressing. It was a crunchy ,healthy and a delicious salad at the same time. The dressing made it so subtle.
For our drinks, Mr Saroop suggested Passion and grape fruit fizz. Passion fruit is my favorite, so that combined with grape fruit made it absolutely divine.Another one was Apple lemon grass mojito. It was indeed cooling and refreshing.
Moving on to the main course, we chose to have Penne Al Salmone recommended by Mr Saroop. The rich flavor of salmon was rightly pooled with fresh herbs and tomatoes was rather enjoyable.
Another one was a Chef’s special Lasagna. One of my most desired dish that night. The lasagna was done to perfection with tomatoes, veal, béchamel sauce. I’m drooling thinking about it.
Lastly we ordered for a pizza with two different toppings. Here the pizza base is square shaped and we decided to go with one half tricolore and another capricciosa .Blend of wheat and wholegrain dough is used for making pizza base. Tricolore was topped with mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, goat cheese, arugula and balsamic vinegar. Capricciosa was topped with tomato, mozzarella, ham, olives, mushrooms, artichokes, extra virgin olive oil. I prefer Capricciosa as it was more suiting my taste buds.
The desserts were also pretty impressive and a good assortment as well. I chose to have a berry panna cotta.Though I was full, I could finish it in seconds shamelessly wiping the bowl.
Tiramisu and strawberry tart were the next chosen one. Tart was ok but I loved the tiramisu which was quite different from classic one but unique with right amount of mascarpone and coffee mix.
Thanks Ms Carmen for the invite and Mr Saroop for the warm hospitality.
Verdict: When it comes to pasta products or cooked pasta, pizzas and lasagna Barilla is top notch with respect to superior quality and delicious foodstuffs.
