Tom & Serg is one of the celebrated Australian brands which is famous for a frill- free spot that the city desire. A little history goes a long way. Back in 2011, Tom Arnel and Sergio Lopez came up with this idea. Tom being a chef and foodie from Melbourne and Serg, a savvy F&B operations director from Madrid met and over the time after several deliberations finally it was launched… to make great, specialty coffee and nutritious, gourmet food accessible to all of us, Dubai’s ever-growing population.
In a place that’s honest, casual and, above all, easy to be in. Its been three years since it started in Dubai and have bagged several Timeout Dubai Awards since its opening. Its managed by General Manager Mr Matt Connell who is also the in-charge of the Mexican eatery joint ‘Muchachas’.
One fine Friday morning, we decided to head to this destination which is situated in the ground level of Joud Centre in Al Quoz. It has a spacious seating area with two floors of dining area . It is having a warehouse-y feel , In fact a real thought about interiors .
Our host of the day Mr Alex greeted us and took inside the restaurant. They have a kids area and a library on the top floor and I preferred to sit there with my son.
The menu is quite simple and we selected some of the house faves. One was Turkish eggs which has poached eggs with almond butter, sumac yoghurt and cherry tomatoes. The chilly flakes on top gave a distinct flavor. Our favorite dish among all!
Another one was the new benedict. It also has poached eggs which is kept on shredded bbq veal, hollandaise, shoots on a toast. I loved the combo and the shoots and edible flower made it look quite appealing.
Last was a weekend special lamb sausage and zucchini frittata with sautéed kale, crispy mushrooms and feta cheese which is kept on a bed of boiled potato and cream. An exotic dish and the frittatas gave it the twist.
They have an extensive array of coffees from different places and without much bafflement we chose a filter coffee and a cappuccino. The filter coffee had a homely flavor which quite loved and the cappuccino was fairly good as well.
To end our meal, as recommended by Alex, we went with the Salted caramel French toast topped with poached plums. It is by far the best French toast I ever had. It was luscious, moist and the vanilla sauce together with it made it just blissful. Thanks to Mr Matt for the invitation and definitely coming back to try more.
Verdict: A highly recommended restaurant/cafe with fair prices and some delicious dishes in the menu to spend some quality time with family and kids.
