Amigo Restaurant, Al Barsha

Tucked in a small outlet in Barsha Heights is Amigo restaurant which specializes in Syrian traditional cuisines. The man behind it Mr Feras Al Khouri invited me for a tasting session and explained in detail about the restaurant and what they have in store. Some of the highlights are :

1.Oats dough instead of the usual one on your preference.
2.Special dish of the day notify through whatsapp.
3.An open kitchen .
4.Meat and fresh vegetables bought from the market daily.

We started off with tabbouleh. It was pretty fresh as they do it on order and not refrigerated. We also called for a coffee and fresh orange juice.
Among Syrian special breads, we got to try some of the specialties like Kashkawal and muhamara, Sujuk and cheese, Safiha pomegranate(trying meat and pomegranate combo for the first time and I quite loved it).The bread was made here at the kitchen and was piping hot & soft.

We also tried the Arabic chicken Shawarma which was filled with generous amount of chicken, wrapped and toasted in bread. It was pretty good as well.
Another one among my favorite was chicken fajita plate. It was quite spicy and flavorful with three different toasted capsicums and chicken in sauces.

We also tried their special dish of the day which is mahashi made with stuffed rice & meat in marrow and cooked in a spicy gravy. A must try dish here. The gravy was too good and we can have it as a whole meal. It is one of the regular dish in every Syrian households.
Among grill section, we tried their mixed grill platter with shish taouk and meat cubes. The meat cubes was not cooked properly and the shish taouk quite ordinary. It was served along with fries and bread.
Lastly we also tried a beef burger patty made here as well. The patty was served alone as we were already full by then.

Thanks a lot Mr Feras for introducing us to traditional Syrian cuisine and looking forward to visiting in the near future.

Verdict: Amigo restaurant serves some of the traditional Syrian dishes without loosing its authenticity and freshness which has made some regular loyal customers for them.
