Mama Rouz, Hor Al Anz, Dubai

I came across Mama rouz a while back and glad to be dined in with family in a very homely atmosphere with courteous staffs. They have a versatile menu featuring Arabic, Indian , Chinese and much more. The dining area is quite spacious as well with some private cabins for families. We started off with the drinks and chose to have virgin pina colada. It was refreshing and quite different from what we had before.

Then came our tom yum soup. We decided to go with the seafood one. I certainly loved the flavours though it looked not so attractive at first.
Arabic mezze ( hummus, spicy salad and tabouleh) It had an Indian touch to it with little bit of spiciness. Hummus was fresh and went well with the pita bread.

Among starters we got to try the Chicken in chilli bean sauce. It was quite appealing and tasted as good as it looked.

Moving on to the main course,
Stir fried noodles was the first to arrive. It was evident that they have not used any artificial flavours to enhance the taste. I really loved the preparation.
The most awaited one was the Mama rouz mutton biryani. Like many who have reviewed before, it is a healthy home made biryani with minimum oil and it taste just like how our mother makes at home. I would definitely go back to have it again . It was seriously yum.

Sizzling brownie – After our heartful meal, we got our hands on the sizzling brownie. It came slightly burnt at first, but when we notified they immediately replaced it with a fresh one. It was pretty delicious.

Finally a mint tea to end our journey here at Mama Rouz.

Verdict: Still a lot of scope for improvement but the Mama Rouz mutton biryani definitely stole my heart.

Barbeque Nation, Al Barsha

Barbeque Nation is a well established restaurant chain India and they opened their outlet in Dubai for all their loyal fans in here. The concept is having live grill table where we can grill non-veg and veg skewers right in front of us. Also they have various live counters for chaats, noodles, soups and a decent buffet spread.Though we went on a weekend , the customer service was pleasing even after being a bit crowded.

We started off with  our drinks and we opted for pacific blue. It was quite a refreshing one and I bet its good for the scorching summer season. They introduce different themes throughout the year and it was mango fest when we dined in there.

Among grills, I loved the shrimps which was perfectly marinated and cooked and also the  mushrooms. They also serve some starters like chicken wings, kebabs and cheesy potatoes to our table. The cheesy potatoes is one of the favorite starter with a twist of spiciness and crunchiness together.18236103_10210652397398573_791692393_o(1)

One of the unique station in here was customized soup station were we could choose our ingredients and make the soup to our liking.  Similarly a live counter for noodles too. Another live station worth mentioning is the keema pav station. It really gave us some nostalgic memories

Moving on to the main course, We were almost full by the time we reached here after all the grills, starters and  live counters for noodles and soups. I tried out the mutton biryani here. It was super yum with mutton cooked to perfection.

They did not let us down even at the dessert counter. The gulab jamuns here is highly recommended and not to be missed at all. It is so delectable. I also loved the shahi tukdas. Thanks Barbeque nation and Ms Nihara for a wonderful weekend dinner.

Verdict: A pocket friendly buffet and grill restaurant which serves yummy food at the same time.

Jodhpur , Journey through a royal path

I love to call Jodhpur, a ‘fine-dining Family’ restaurant rather than just fine dining. It is quite conveniently nestled in Roda Al murooj, a beautiful property in Downtown Dubai. The Charioteer ‘Chef Pradeep Khullar’ with his own gastronomic techniques and skills has created some amazing dishes and we were completely carried away by it. Last Friday afternoon, we decided to dine in there with family and to check out what they had in store.

Surprisingly we met Chef on our walk to Jodhpur and he welcomed us to his empire. It has two levels of dining area with cozy and comfortable seating. The staffs were friendly too. It was almost packed when we entered.
As PRE-STARTER we got Jeera Khari with Herb Yoghurt- An Indian version of mini puffs which was served with a herb yoghurt dip. It was quite crispy and the dip well complemented it.18159995_10158563075695405_1351045494_o
Tiny little Macaron chaats were served as amuse bouche which gave us a package of all the elements like sweet, sour, crunchy, chewy- All in one. No wonder it has become the crowd’s favorite. For our son we got a chocolate filled macaron.18175796_10158563075475405_995380915_o(1)
They do have some interesting mock tail mixes, and we got to have raspberry mojito and lemon-mint mojito. Loved the way it was served in a tray of bubbles and smokes.

Moving on, an array of cold and hot starters arrived one by one and we started off with
Beef Short Ribs with Aam Papad Glaze. An unexpected combination of tanginess and crispiness on the outer and soft perfectly cooked meat inside was a perfect win.

Nimbu Jhinga, Pan Grilled, Beet Carpaccio – Again a well presented dish with Pan grilled tiger prawns marinated in lemon pickle marinade & served with beetroot carpaccio. The prawns were perfectly cooked though I felt the marination was little overpowering the flavor of prawns. But my husband liked it.
Chicken & Chestnut Kulcha with Sumac Laban- Chef described how those delectable kulchas are made with melt-in-mouth chicken and water chestnut filling and carefully cooked in tandoor. Another highly recommended dish here at Jodhpur. I can’t wait to try it again.

Kale Patta Chaat with Chatpata Tarbooz and Feta Curd- Flash fried kale leaves served in a watermelon and feta salad. The curd was frozen using liquid nitrogen and it looked quite appealing.
Mango, Cranberry & Kaffir Lime Sorbet – This sorbet served in toy pressure cooker made with Fresh Alphonso puree spiked with kaffir lime leaves & de-hydrated cranberries. We were ready to have the main course after this amazing palate cleanser18120193_10158563073425405_1966859920_o
Keema ‘Pygmy’ Pao with masala Hari Mirch- The mutton keema was done so well with butter and masalas that even after finishing the pao, I could not stop having the keema.
Faux Dal Makhni- Here the moong Dal is replaced with Black Urad & cooked exactly the same way Dal makhni is made so that the taste is not compromised. It was thick and creamy but we did not feel bloated after eating since the black urad was used.

Chur chur kulcha- Crispy kulchas stuffed with paneer and other masalas were a good combination with dal makhni.
The most awaited part, Desserts. I have heard a lot about the desserts and the drool worthy pics my foodie friends have posted and was eagerly waiting to try it out.
Lotus Treacle Tart, Salted Butter Scotch Ice Cream- I am a die-hard fan of anything lotus and I can’t ask for something better than this. Even after these many days I am still dreaming of this particular dessert and I highly recommend you all to try this out.

Saffron Jalebi, Mascarpone Rabdi- Another impressively presented one with jalebis hanging in metal tree. Well after having my lotus tart, this tiny little jalebis gave a twist in flavors.
Thanks Chef Pradeep Khullar for this amazing experience and most significantly the warm hospitality and giving importance to customer satisfaction.
Verdict: A great place to visit on all your special occasions and enjoy the delicious masterpieces they offer.

The Grub house, International city- Dubai

The Grub House is one of the restaurant in International city with a decent ambience and a good place to dine in with family. We went here for a blogger’s session put together by NNK. We were greeted by Ms Risha who is also the owner of the restaurant and she did explain to us in detail about the place. They specialize in north Indian and Indo chinese cuisine too.

We called for lemon mint to start with. It was pretty refreshing.
Moving on to the starters, we were served some of the signature platters as suggested by Ms Risha.
Salim ki pasand- It was a mixed platter with several non-veg kebabs. Being a hardcore carnivore , I quite loved it.
Anarkali ki pasand- The names were quite interesting! This is a mixed kebab platter with an assortment of paneer, baby potatoes etc.

Next was my favorite Sagar-E-Sultan which was a seafood platter of prawns, fish etc. The prawns were cooked to perfection with the right spices.
Among chinese starter , we got to try schezwan chicken which was pretty good too.
Tandoori chicken- Another favorite starter with soft pieces of chicken perfectly marinated and grilled. The spice level was also right.

Moving on to the main course, we tried Matka chicken, Tangdi kebab lababdar, sunheri chicken, Chicken masala bombay biryani.
We quite enjoyed the biryani which was done pretty well.
Schezwan noodles was a bit let down as it was lacking some flavors.

The most exciting part,Desserts!! We tried both Gulab jamun and Ras malai. They were made in-house and was really delicious and we did enjoy.

Verdict: A decent family restaurant with courteous staffs, delicious food and great offers for university students as well.

The Tap house, Club Vista Mare

Another new restaurant in Dubai which offers amazing view with some mouthwatering International delicacies. We dined here last day  at the Tap house which is located in Club Vista Mare which has a spacious indoor dining area and an outdoor seating facility where we can still enjoy the current Dubai weather. They have a large screen for watching your favorite games and munch on some delicious Tap house specialties. The interiors are done quite interestingly with exposed bricks and rough wooden furniture.

We started off with two non-alcoholic drinks; Pineapple mojito and Strawberry margherita..Both were super cooling and in fact a good start to our dinner.

From the kids menu, we got to order the penne arabiatta which was made of a rich  tomato based sauce and my son instantly became a fan of it.

Moving on to the starters, we chose to have Tap house Caesar’s salad with grilled chicken . The dressing was pretty good and the fresh lettuce and grilled chicken very much complimented it.

Wasabi prawns was the next to arrive. It would have been better if it was a bit more crispier.

Among main course, as suggested we decided to have the Tap house burger with mushroom and swiss. The whole presentation is quite tempting with a stack of onion rings on top. The beef patty was well done and we did enjoy a lot. It was quite filling too. Another dish we thought of trying is the orange- glazed Back rib which is slow cooked for 9 hours and served along with baby potatoes. The meat was tender soft and the flavors were infused in it . I will go back to have more of this dish.

For the desserts, we decided to have the Cheeton mess which is raspberry cheesecake covered in a meringue dome. Though it looked a lot from the first sight,we finished it in a jiff.  We wanted to try the Belgian waffles, but it was not available, so we went on to try the Banoffee jar which was made of banana and toffee. It was freshly made in-house and that made all the difference.

Verdict : Yet another spot added to the Dubai dining scenes for a casual meet up and watch your favorite games along with some delicious food and refreshing drinks.

Pressman’s pressed Sandwiches

When it comes to sandwiches, I think about all health aspects of it. Whether the bread is gluten free, whole wheat bread, whether the ingredients are organic and fresh. Here at the Pressman’s pressed sandwiches, all these are taken into account. It is a kind of fast food joint where we will not feel real guilty of what we have and enjoy all the goodness of fresh ingredients. Last day along with few other foodies, I headed to the Pressman’s in Trade Centre Area.

The staffs here are very friendly & courteous and they also helped us what to choose. We started off with smoothies. We called for Mango, Banana and strawberry favors. I personally liked the mango and banana ones as it was sweet and yum.
Next we went on to order their salads. One of my favorite was Brooklyn salad with bacons and cheese.

The dressing was good too. Other salads we ordered were Arabian and Mediterranean. They make the salad daily in house and supplied to each outlet.
Moving on to the pressed sandwiches, We tried the signature triple cheese which was the yummiest of all with goodness of cheese. It was crispy too. Next on the line was Spicy chipotle chicken. The flavors were on spot with right amount of spiciness.

Chicken, Avocado and bacon sandwich was the next to arrive. It was another great sandwich which tasted like guacamole and chicken filling. They even provide Indian flavors like Bombay special with a spicy potato filling. We also got to try the special soup of the day which was spicy and tangy tomato soup. A smooth and flavorful one light for our tummies.17692386_10210374908781531_1030213687_o.jpg
To conclude our dinner , I ordered a cappuccino with an awesome latte art.
Verdict: Looking for a quick bite with some innovative thinking interms of the filling used and some healthy wholesome meal, head to Pressman Sandwiches.

Awani-Levant, The Dubai Mall

A cheerful news for the Levantine-cuisine lovers out there. Awani-levant has opened their brand new and the third outlet in the Dubai Mall which has a location overlooking the Majestic Burj Khalifa . The interior is quite alluring with some elegant décor. I have been to their Outlet village branch and when I got an invitation to try out this new one, I could not reject the invite.
We were served with cucumber soup as complimentary starter. It was refreshing, not-so thick hot and flavorful soup and a perfect start to our dinner.
They know how to make a simple dish to turn out so incredible. One such example is batata harra which is potato fried in special spices, garlic & coriander .It is one of my favorite at Awani in both outlets.

Fukharet lahmeh, which is grilled chopped beef in onion, pepper and drizzled with olive oil was the next to order. The meat was quite aromatic and the simple spices was just flawless .

17430849_10210273569688117_806881195_oSpecial mention about the hot and fresh bread served along. The hummus was also pretty good. For the main, we had the shish tawook, another simple yet delightful dish. The chicken was really tender and cooked to perfection.17430582_10210273569968124_384548234_o
For desserts, We called for a cheese knafeh, one of the favorite dessert when I dined at outlet village. Unlike other kunafas, this is crisper outside and cheesy inside. A perfect conclusion for our dinner.17453381_10210273568168079_841021388_o
Verdict: Consistent delivery of good food along with a welcoming service will undeniably make Awani – levant , a hot spot at Dubai Mall.

Acai spot, A Healthy destination

The trend keeps on changing each day in the restaurant industry and we also expect something different in every aspects like cuisine, ambience etc. Many restaurants are coming up with the idea of healthy snacks with casual atmosphere. Acai spot is one of the place which offers you with this unique concept. We feel as if we are at home relaxing in the couch of our sitting room with healthy bites and smoothies. They even have some interesting books and board games like ludo, chess for some recreation.

All their bowls and jars are based on acai fruit which is a tropical fruit grows in acai palm in the regions of Brazil. It is similar to blue berries but they are poles apart in terms of taste.
I had the opportunity to try out their specialties along with some laid back , relaxed and hassle free time here last day along with my friend. The menu is not very hard to choose and they have some exciting dishes on the list. We decided to start with Acai bowls. One was a yummy berry and another original one.

17105976_10210111341632517_239821029_o Both were topped up with granola & strawberries and granola & banana respectively. But they have other choices as well like chia seed, flax seed and different fruits. It was too good and healthy at the same time.
I also tried their tuna sandwich which was made of shredded tuna with corn and carrot dressing. They used brown bread to reduce the calories intake but taste amazing..

To conclude, I ordered a hot chocolate and a passion fruit ice tea for my friend. Thanks Marcio Saboya for the invite and glad that we visited this #hiddengem.

Verdict : If you are looking for some stress- free time after work with some healthy and nutritious bites, Acai spot is the destination you are looking for.
