Barbeque Nation, Al Barsha

Barbeque Nation is a well established restaurant chain India and they opened their outlet in Dubai for all their loyal fans in here. The concept is having live grill table where we can grill non-veg and veg skewers right in front of us. Also they have various live counters for chaats, noodles, soups and a decent buffet spread.Though we went on a weekend , the customer service was pleasing even after being a bit crowded.

We started off with  our drinks and we opted for pacific blue. It was quite a refreshing one and I bet its good for the scorching summer season. They introduce different themes throughout the year and it was mango fest when we dined in there.

Among grills, I loved the shrimps which was perfectly marinated and cooked and also the  mushrooms. They also serve some starters like chicken wings, kebabs and cheesy potatoes to our table. The cheesy potatoes is one of the favorite starter with a twist of spiciness and crunchiness together.18236103_10210652397398573_791692393_o(1)

One of the unique station in here was customized soup station were we could choose our ingredients and make the soup to our liking.  Similarly a live counter for noodles too. Another live station worth mentioning is the keema pav station. It really gave us some nostalgic memories

Moving on to the main course, We were almost full by the time we reached here after all the grills, starters and  live counters for noodles and soups. I tried out the mutton biryani here. It was super yum with mutton cooked to perfection.

They did not let us down even at the dessert counter. The gulab jamuns here is highly recommended and not to be missed at all. It is so delectable. I also loved the shahi tukdas. Thanks Barbeque nation and Ms Nihara for a wonderful weekend dinner.

Verdict: A pocket friendly buffet and grill restaurant which serves yummy food at the same time.

Jodhpur , Journey through a royal path

I love to call Jodhpur, a ‘fine-dining Family’ restaurant rather than just fine dining. It is quite conveniently nestled in Roda Al murooj, a beautiful property in Downtown Dubai. The Charioteer ‘Chef Pradeep Khullar’ with his own gastronomic techniques and skills has created some amazing dishes and we were completely carried away by it. Last Friday afternoon, we decided to dine in there with family and to check out what they had in store.

Surprisingly we met Chef on our walk to Jodhpur and he welcomed us to his empire. It has two levels of dining area with cozy and comfortable seating. The staffs were friendly too. It was almost packed when we entered.
As PRE-STARTER we got Jeera Khari with Herb Yoghurt- An Indian version of mini puffs which was served with a herb yoghurt dip. It was quite crispy and the dip well complemented it.18159995_10158563075695405_1351045494_o
Tiny little Macaron chaats were served as amuse bouche which gave us a package of all the elements like sweet, sour, crunchy, chewy- All in one. No wonder it has become the crowd’s favorite. For our son we got a chocolate filled macaron.18175796_10158563075475405_995380915_o(1)
They do have some interesting mock tail mixes, and we got to have raspberry mojito and lemon-mint mojito. Loved the way it was served in a tray of bubbles and smokes.

Moving on, an array of cold and hot starters arrived one by one and we started off with
Beef Short Ribs with Aam Papad Glaze. An unexpected combination of tanginess and crispiness on the outer and soft perfectly cooked meat inside was a perfect win.

Nimbu Jhinga, Pan Grilled, Beet Carpaccio – Again a well presented dish with Pan grilled tiger prawns marinated in lemon pickle marinade & served with beetroot carpaccio. The prawns were perfectly cooked though I felt the marination was little overpowering the flavor of prawns. But my husband liked it.
Chicken & Chestnut Kulcha with Sumac Laban- Chef described how those delectable kulchas are made with melt-in-mouth chicken and water chestnut filling and carefully cooked in tandoor. Another highly recommended dish here at Jodhpur. I can’t wait to try it again.

Kale Patta Chaat with Chatpata Tarbooz and Feta Curd- Flash fried kale leaves served in a watermelon and feta salad. The curd was frozen using liquid nitrogen and it looked quite appealing.
Mango, Cranberry & Kaffir Lime Sorbet – This sorbet served in toy pressure cooker made with Fresh Alphonso puree spiked with kaffir lime leaves & de-hydrated cranberries. We were ready to have the main course after this amazing palate cleanser18120193_10158563073425405_1966859920_o
Keema ‘Pygmy’ Pao with masala Hari Mirch- The mutton keema was done so well with butter and masalas that even after finishing the pao, I could not stop having the keema.
Faux Dal Makhni- Here the moong Dal is replaced with Black Urad & cooked exactly the same way Dal makhni is made so that the taste is not compromised. It was thick and creamy but we did not feel bloated after eating since the black urad was used.

Chur chur kulcha- Crispy kulchas stuffed with paneer and other masalas were a good combination with dal makhni.
The most awaited part, Desserts. I have heard a lot about the desserts and the drool worthy pics my foodie friends have posted and was eagerly waiting to try it out.
Lotus Treacle Tart, Salted Butter Scotch Ice Cream- I am a die-hard fan of anything lotus and I can’t ask for something better than this. Even after these many days I am still dreaming of this particular dessert and I highly recommend you all to try this out.

Saffron Jalebi, Mascarpone Rabdi- Another impressively presented one with jalebis hanging in metal tree. Well after having my lotus tart, this tiny little jalebis gave a twist in flavors.
Thanks Chef Pradeep Khullar for this amazing experience and most significantly the warm hospitality and giving importance to customer satisfaction.
Verdict: A great place to visit on all your special occasions and enjoy the delicious masterpieces they offer.

Biryani Khaas at India Palace

India palace has  been celebrating Mughal heritage for nearly two decades through its traditional cuisine , intricate decor and award winning hospitality.India Palace as a brand echoes the tradition and cultural heritage of India adorned by the royalty, richness and diversity of flavors found across the country. Biryani-e-Khaas is an extension of their commitment of introducing the flavors of India, in all its glory to the residents of UAE.17837478_10158461263770405_1516277874_o.jpg

They launched an event called Biryani-Khaas, the gala of authentic heritage biryanis on the 6th of March 2017 where a special menu was specifically designed to highlight the flavors and variety of biryanis found across the different regions; each packed with its own spices and flavor profile. The menu boasts four outstanding biryanis and select desserts that complement one another and pleases the palate.
The menu includes:
1) Noor Mahal Biryani:It was indeed a treat for the eyes; one of my favorite among all with stuffed chicken koftas tossed in aromatic sauce. The flavors were so rich .
2) Murgh Coorgi Biryani: Each biryani was quite different from each other. This was quite unique well prepared with juicy chicken & freshly grinded whole spices.

3) Bohri Chaamp Biryani: This splendid dish is prepared with spicy Bohri Masala blended with mutton chops & marinated for a whole day. The meat was tender soft and was delightful to our tummies.
4) Subz Qabuli Pulao: This renowned Afghani delicacy is a mix of rice, warm spices & Chana dal, decorated with caramelized fruits & vegetables. A good option for the vegetarians out there.

We ended our dinner with a traditional Indian falooda with kulfi icecream, vermicelli, dried fruits and nuts.17797145_10158461262715405_1706628634_o.jpg

The selection of the biryanis included in the special menu for Biryani-e-Khaas took months of research in finalizing the four that we had that day. Each dish speaks of the region it represents, the diversity in the spices used and the type of rice and meat used.
Verdict: All the four varieties specially the Noor Mahal and the Bohri chaamp biryani had the richness of flavors and a royal touch of those particular regions.

Egg Dhaba, JLT

If you are looking for a pocket friendly, healthy and authentic punjabi cuisine in JLT area, Egg dhaba is the best option I can suggest you. Not all the dishes they serve are egg based, they do have other vegetarian and non veg dishes as well.
We decided to dine in on a saturday for lunch. They have a spacious indoor dining area as well as outdoor area facing the lake.
The staffs and the manager were quite friendly and suggested us the specialties that they have.
Called for a mango lassi and nimbu pani to start with. The lassi was creamy and smooth and loved the flavor of mango in it. Nimbu pani was quite refreshing.

Maska bun omelette was the one we chose among starters. It was a different omelette than we see normally with buns stuffed inside the omelette. The omelette was fluffy and soft and it was pretty good.
Next was the dish of the day which was Amritsari Kulcha with channa. The kulcha was stuffed with paneer, chilli , potato and it was a good combination with channa curry.
We went on to try the chicken tikka since we thought of trying something in non-veg. It was cooked well and the marination was done properly.

We also got to try the masala omelette curry which is prepared using strips of omelette in a spicy thick gravy. Another specialty dish of Egg Dhaba and it did not disappoint us either.17968717_10158514924785405_1049355682_o - Copy

To end our lunch, A ginger-karak tea is a must try here and is served with namak pare. The karak tea was the best I had in for a while and the namak pare along with it is just pure happiness.

Verdict: There are several reasons for us to go back here again when in JLT, one good reason is the Karak tea, masala omelette curry and various other dishes in the menu which we did not try.

Biryani Street, Palm Jumeirah

Biryani Street was opened to the public few days back and it has already become the talk of the town. I was invited for a food tasting session to try out some of their specialties last week along with few other bloggers and was pretty impressed with what they have in store. The interiors are done in a desi style with a very thoughtful décor by means of wall art and theme based accessories. We also get a view of the kitchen through a small window. Mr Jai was there to greet us and tell us the story of Biryani street and the way it functions. To start with, we called for some fresh juices and mojitos. The strawberry and mango mojitos were pretty cooling and comes in attractive glass containers and also fresh juices like orange, watermelon and lemon mint.

Moving on to the starters, we got to try the dish of the day which is the fish cake. The flavors were really subtle and it could not have been done any better. I would go back just to have this alone. Another one was a mela seekh kebab patter with a mix of non-veg items. Out of which I loved the fish and prawns. The meat kebab could have been done better.

Lentil shorba was the next to arrive at our table. It was a lentil based soup and with some mild spices made it extra special. Perfect for the climate.
Moving on to the main course, one of the must try here will definitely be biryani and they did not let us down either. We ordered a hyderabadi chicken biryani and a prawns biryani. I personally prefer the prawns as it was more suiting my taste with the right amount of masala.

Next one was another dish of the day which is jumbo prawns in cream sauce. Though I loved the sauce, the prawns should have been little more cooked.
Next we ordered the dal tadka, bhuna gosht, kheema mutter masala, along with some assortment of breads. The bhuna gosht was the star among all with the tender soft mutton pieces in rich gravy. Dal tadka was the next which had the subtle desi flavor. Kheema mutter masala was good as well.

At last we ordered our desserts. Kulfi and gulab jamun were the ones to arrive at our table. It was one of the best kulfi I had ever. Gulab jamun as usual was yummy . To conclude our dinner, we called for Karak chai and man it was mindblowing indeed.Strong flavor of chai will be anyone’s favorite and you will not be disappointed.

Verdict: Dubai’s desi dining scene is expanding day by day and Biryani Street is another promising outlet to satisfy our Desi food cravings.

Bol Gappa, Dubai Parks andResorts

Dubai offers pretty much everything someone needs in terms of entertainment and leisure activities and Dubai parks and resorts is nothing but a package of entertainment options. One of the parks called Bollywood parks is solely dedicated to Indian movies and they have various activities related. Bol Gappa which is situated next to the entrance of Bollywood parks is absolutely dedicated to Bollywood movies and the interiors and decor very much complement that theme.. Even the renowned dialogues from the movies are used to make the name of the dishes. Famous tracks were played in the background for that complete feel. Thanks Webiral technologies ( Instagram- @webiral) for the invitation and this remarkable experience.

We were welcomed to the restaurant by the manager Mr Pradeep and he explained us about its development and a range of dishes they had in store. They have their own versions of traditional dishes with a modern twist. The cuisine is completely veg and a ‘Safe Haven’ for vegetarians. Though they have tried out some innovations, the taste has not been compromised. The drinks they have are incredibly out of the ordinary.
Moving on to the food, We went on with the starters. I loved the Alutuk chatpat which is made of baby potatoes fried and tossed in homemade sauces and some diced tomatoes.

It tasted quite good. Among the wraps, we tried the paneer tikka wrap. The roti could have been little more crispier but the filling was pretty nice.We also tried their Szechuan crispy veg which is crispy vegetables in Szechuan sauce served in a bed of noodles.

16763816_10158219339550405_1786886065_o Highway de dhaba ki shaan was the one we ordered among main course. Its nothing but kulcha and chole with boondi raita. It was quite different and one of the top selling dish here.

For the dessert, we had another innovative dish from the menu spring roll made of carrot halwa and it was pretty scrumptious. It was served along with paan flavored icecream and it was an amazing combination. They do have some captivating drinks as well. We decided to go with citrus sparkle and raspberry lemonade fizz. Both were amazingly cooling and loved those blends.

Verdict: After some splendid time at Bollywood parks, to get some yummy and delicious Indian dishes head on to Bol Gappa and enjoy your rest of the day.

Memory Lane, Dubai Marina

Memory lane is one of few restaurants in Dubai we feel like going back again and again because of the delicious food they serve and the stress-free and soothing atmosphere. A dedicated family-run multi cuisine restaurant in Dubai Marina, with Indian,Chinese and fusion dishes. We were welcomed by Mohit , who is the incharge of the restaurant and also the owner’s son. The ambience is pretty family oriented with a live green wall which is quite #instagrammable.

We started off with a chicken wonton noodle soup. We chose to have chicken based one.I loved the combination of herbs and mild spices used.

For our starters,we had the rojali kebab suggested by Mohit. Its a pretty time consuming item to prepare with stuffed meat in chicken breast but absolutely loved it.It is meant for true foodies.

Another one was thai style sizzling chilli prawns. The flavours were combined perfect with crispy fried prawns was the show stopper that day.
For our drinks we chose to have one of the crowd’s favorite lavender mojito and black cherry iced tea. The iced tea was tempting and the lavender mojito was energizing .

Among main course ,We got to try the fortune rice which is one of a kind flavorful rice which we can have it as such or with some sides. We combined it Singapore sauce chicken sizzler. The baby corns and spinach complemented the sauce and chicken well.

For main course in Indian style,we chose to have the bhoona laal maas which is boneless mutton cooked in rajasthani chilli. The spicy level was just right for me. It was a good combination with shahi naan.Another one was a veg curry. We decided to go with paneer tikka masala. The paneer used was prepared fresh turned out to be really good.

They have only ice creams at present for dessert option but planning to format the menu by adding few more to it.Thanks to the management for the invite and a journey through a lane of memories.
Verdict: For Indian or Oriental cuisine and some revitalizing drinks, Memory lane is definitely going to be on the top list with sensible price and a calm atmosphere.

Punjabi By Nature,Oud Metha

India is a nation where we have different cultures, languages and also different cuisines in each state. Each gastronomy have their own unique ingredients to make them stand out.Though I am an Indian,I come from the south of India and it is entirely different from the north. Recently I got a chance to visit one of the restaurants in Dubai which is dedicated to Punjabi cuisine ‘Punjabi by Nature’. Commanded by well experienced chef Vineeth who got good knowledge about what Punjabi cuisine is all about and he has done few innovations as well.

Our dinner started with welcome drink, Chatti wali lassi pede de naal which is a traditional saffron and milk based drink.A good one to start with. Two other drinks that we ordered were Ambh ka panna which is mango flavored and Shikanjvi which is a lime based drink.
Moving on to the starters:

We started with the Bhatti da murg which is roasted boneless chicken pieces well marinated with chilly flakes and bhatti masalas .I loved the flavor and the level of spiciness was just perfect.

Amritsari macchi was the next to arrive .It is basically fish marinated, dipped in gram flour and deep fried in mustard oil.It was crispy outside and soft inside.
Among vegetarian starters,we had Bharwan aloo tikki di chaat .A must try dish here…It was justing melting in our mouth and the mix of sweet yoghurt in it made it divine .Amritsari paneer tikka was another veg starter. It was just average compared to the other ones.
Main course came with assorted breads such as laccha paratha, butter naan and garlic naan.

Evenafter being a big time carnivore,I was overwhelmed by the Wadiyan wala paneer. It comes with thick gravy and crispy lentil dumplings.I could have it one go without any sides.
Another very common dish in Punjabi cuisine is Dal makhani. It was creamy and was complementing butter naan well.
Nimbu da murg was the one in chicken. The gravy was bit high on the tangy side and chicken pieces were bit chewy .Not my kind of taste.
Bhuna gosht is a mutton based dish which is stir fried with caramelized onions.Another favorite dish in the menu. The pieces were succulent and well covered in the gravy.

To end our journey ,We had the Phirni. It is rice kheer flavored with cardamom and saffron. The sweetness level was not so high and just perfect for my taste.

A must try restaurant if you love to have authentic Punjabi food.

Indian Summer,A must visit Indian Restaurant

Indian Summer is a classy looking Indian restaurant tucked in the Karama area behind Post office. They have a very spacious dining area with separate party hall too..It is quite a big empire of restaurant chain with  9 restaurants in Saudi Arabia and this is the first in Dubai and more coming soon.I got to try out the menu and was very exultant with the dishes they had.

We started with the drinks and they gave us the saudi champagne which is a combination of sprite, apple juice etc with fresh pieces of fruits. An awesome one to start with.A very cooling one indeed.

Another innovative dish was the crispy romali roti with masala on top.It was going well with the mint chutney.

Next came the various starters.

In the vegetarian section we got to try the Zaffrani aloo gobi which is cauliflower and roasted baby potato which is well marinated in saffron and other spices and the dish was finger licking good..In the chicken starters we had the chicken pahadi tikka which is marinated in a mint based masala and cooked in clay oven.A must try at Indian Summer. We finished it in seconds. Our next starter was mutton seekh kabab which is quite normal and nothing bad to comment about.

Moving on to our main course,we got to try their special chicken biryani cooked in the traditional way and arrived in clay pot.The Biryani was too good filled with flavours and chicken was cooked to perfection. It was piping hot when it was served.

A combination of various naans such as plain, butter and garlic  naan were served to us.Among chicken dishes ,we had Kadhai chicken and Chicken Handi. But I will vote for Kadhai chicken if I have to choose one of them.Loved the gravy rich in Indian spicy masala.

Among seafood main course,we got to try the Fish tawa masala.Small cubes of boneless fish which was cooked in a tomato and onion based gravy.Extremely good and going well with naans too.

After our amazing feast,we had our desserts.Sizzling brownie is the most wanted dish on the menu and we also had our hands on it.It was on spot.Hot brownie and chocolate syrup well complemented the ice cream.

The Rasmalai is another must try among desserts. It was melting in our mouth and one of the best i have had.

They do have chinese dishes too in the menu and next time will definitely try out.I recommend everyone to give it a try and enjoy the food in a great ambience.

Tresind,New winter menu

15409708_10157856396640405_1896518849_oThe winter is here at our door steps and Tresind also has launched its all new winter menu to amaze us again.I was awestruck by the menu they had in store.

They gave us a foggy/smoky welcome and it was real treat to our eyes and mind. Our amuse bouche was Deconstructed pani puri which incorporated molecular gastronomy in order to give pani puri a whole new look. The pani puri syrup which also consisted of calcium was poured into an alginate solution which immediately jellifies the outer layer without ruining the taste. It is then washed in cold water and served to us with sweet chutney and boond. When it reaches our mouth ,it was bursting with flavors.

Our drinks were berry blast which comes in a funny container and such an awesomized version of berries it was…and passion fruit lava which make use of dry ice (solidified carbon dioxide) in order to create a lava flow and it  was a treat for us to watch.

For something hot during winter, wild mushroom soup could be a good option and it was served in a small tea cup.Loved the flavour of it.Exotic!!!

Next was Indian version of tomato salsa served with  tiny breads and hummus. We loved it having together and it gave us a distinct taste to our palates.

Since we went to try the winter menu,we also got to try a warm salad,a baked burrata salad. It couldn’t get any better than this

Next on or table was roasted baby corn with lemon butter sauce. The chef prepared it right infront of us and the smell took us into our olden days when you have roasted corn with spices from streets.

Once we finished that we were served with fish patropoda that is fish cooked in banana leaf with rich indian spices.Fish used was seabass and it was done to perfection filled with right amount of spices and is definitely the star of the night. It was served along with chutney and banana fries.

Then came the Indian version of Nachos where we have pappad with chickpeas instead of tortilla and salsa.

Another much loved  dish on the menu was jameen doz chicken. Here small sized tender chicken is slow cooked under earth for eight hours in rich gravy.Needless to say it was melting in our mouth.

Another wonder dish was a kebab made from lotus stick and veggies which reminds us of lamb chops. It comes along with mango chutney and roasted potato cubes. Its my first hand experience with lotus stick and I never knew it was edible.

When we were  done with starters,we were offered a palate cleanser to get us started with the main course.

Birbal ki kichdi was the next to arrive on our table.I was curiously watching the chef made it right infront of us adding not just one or two but 48 ingredients to the dish and topped it up with warm water and Indian ghee.It tasted unique in every spoonful. The ingredients ranging from asparagus to coconut ,saffron and so on.

Pressure cooked chicken stew came right from the stove as it is and it tasted more like home made chicken and went well with white rice.

For our desserts we  had mini jalebis which came in archaic model scale .It was freshly made and was crisp as well.

The Ghewar Mille Feuille like the name sounds ,it was a unique dessert with fusion of Indian and western flavours. It is actually baked baklava with pistachio, raspberry and rose sorbet flavours. We  finished it in few seconds.

Another amusing  dessert was baked kunafa which looked like sunny side up on the vermicelli bed, which was made of condensed milk, orange and mango gel and also 24 carat gold foil on top.

We Indians have a tradition to have paan at the end of a heavy meal and here at tresind they serve paan in the form of cotton candies in a flower vase.It will definitely awakes the kid in you.

Our journey at Tresind ends with lot of sweet memories for our palate and mind.
